Early Painted Cheese Box 1888. The pine box has a 12.5 in. dia. lid and leather strap binding on the fingered ends and square head nails securing the top and bottom; has a vibrant orange painted surface with swirling black and green design on the lid and side. The bottom is carved with initials B.J.D.H. over 1888 and the letters M-E-a-L. In good overall condition with some losses to the rim, 5.25 in. high.
