Norman Rockwell Works Coming Up for Sale at Fontaine’s Auction Gallery

Norman Rockwell was a 20th-century American painter. His works are popular in the United States because of how he reflected American culture. Rockwell’s most famous works were for the cover illustrations of everyday life he created for The Saturday Evening Post. In our April 21, Fine Art Auction, we have two pencil on paper work studies that Rockwell created for The Saturday Evening Post; the first is Christmas: Santa Claus Reading Mail, which depicts Santa Claus seated at a writing table with his pipe, holding a quill pen and letter in his hands. On the table are his ledger, inkwell and a stack of mail. The second sketch is Maid with Movie Magazine, which depicts a young figure of a girl seated in a chair, holding a magazine in her lap, and leaning on a broom where two kittens are playing. Also by Rockwell in our April 21, Fine Art auction is a mixed media watercolor on paper with an oil painted border. Norman Rockwell produced more than 4,000 original works, and most of them are in public collections.
