He was taken "Prisoner of War" at Gettysburg in July of 1863 and released from Belle Island in March of 1864. The Bible in this lot is leather bound, and was printed in 1860 in New York. The inside cover is inscribed, "J. Frank Pope - Co. A, 13th Regt. - Mass Vols - Dorchester, Mass". The back inside cover reads "Belle Island, August 8th, 1863 to March 7th, 1864".
