Lot 653

MANN PROTOTYPE SMOOTHBORE CANNON.
57.5" tube with a 4.5" bore. Has a cast-in integral front sight 1.5" high. Overall length is 65.5" long. Gun has a U-shaped yoke about 36" long that extends from the trunnions to the back of the breech. The gun is loaded by lifting the barrel to expose the open breech end. A shell is loaded first, then a bag of powder. The barrel is then lowered back into the rear of the yoke which acts as the breech. This is a tube only and there is no carriage. The folks at Eastover report that only two of these Mann guns were built - both of which are in this auction. A rare opportunity!
Estimate $30,000 - 50,000.
Realized $5,750.00
