| MODEL 1844 AMES USN PISTOL. 54 caliber smoothbore with 6" round barrel. Lockplate is marked N.P. Ames Springfield Mass in three lines and USN 1844 in two vertical lines at back of lock. Brass mountings have nice patina, browned barrel has scattered pitting. Wood stock is good with initials AR carved in flat opposite the lock, right next to the oval cartouche. Has swivel type steel ramrod with button head. Nice example of a rare navy pistol - only 2000 made by Ames. Estimate |
